Sandwiched in the last range of fold mountains of the Cape between the Grootrivier mountains and the Witteberge just North of Willowmore in the Kromme River valley. One can “see” millions of years into the past, right to the beginning of times, when these majestic mountains were created under a vast inland ocean.
This truly scenic undeveloped property is situated near the world famous Baviaanskloof and is as imposing in natural splendour as its better known big brother. It encompasses a narrow valley with rock faced mountains and commanding kloofs on both sides, similar in all respects to the extremely popular Gamkas Kloof (better known as “The Hell”). What makes this property much more appealing as a destination than these other two kloofs is the fact that it is much more and easier accessible, yet it offers the same ambience and enjoyment.
The farm is approximately 240 km from George, 150 km from Graaff-Reinet and 300 km from Port Elizabeth. The property borders the Aberdeen plains (vlakte) and the Groot River Valley. The Kromme River meanders through the farm, joining the Groot River, flowing from the Beervlei Dam 7 km to the West of it, creating a sense of tranquillity in what could only be described as untouched virgin Karoo bushveld. The area is especially known for its exotic and abundant species of Geraniums and natural wild life such as Kudu, “Klipspringers”, “Duikers”, “Rooikat”, Leopard, Bush pigs and the like.
The veld cover is exceptional and has not been grazed by domestic animals for at least 20 years. It represents one of the last unspoilt tracts of Karoo vegetation, and has been preserved exceptionally well. The farm has been uninhabited for at least 50 years.
There is a windmill in working order, a good cement dam, as well as a second borehole which has not been fitted with water extraction equipment, as well as a natural stone cottage ruin which can be repaired. The quality of the water on the farm is good and fresh.
A narrow road suitable for 4X4 traffic connects the farm from the Southern, Western and Eastern dirt road access points. From gate to gate the distance is approximately 5 km.
