DESCRIPTION
Topography: This farm offers something of everything .It is
situated between two mountain ranges. The Groot Rivier mountain
range forms the Northern boundary and a smaller mountain forms
the Southern boundary. The Groot Rivier meanders through the
property for approx 3km and forms huge natural water holes,
which are ideal for the multitude of natural game that occurs
there.
The river creates an ideal sandbank where olives (300 trees)
have been planted that are doing well The olive grove is 4 years
old and is starting to bear fruit. There are a multitude of
kloofs and spectacular cliffs that are ideal for hunting. The
well developed and preserved Acacia belt in the river creates a
spectacular food reserve in an area that has a low rainfall .The
property forms an open plateau where game such as blesbok,
springbok and other plains game would do very well. This
property is also ideal for the breeding of Nyalas.
The property roughly comprises 50% rante and mountain veldt and
the rest undulating flatland
VEGETATION:
Grazing Capacity:20 H PER LARGE STOCK UNIT
The vegetation could be described as Central Lower Karoo on the
flat land and Xeric Succulent Valley Bushveld towards the south
into the foot slopes of the mountains.
The vegetation is dominated by trees, shrubs, karoo bush and a
few grass species
Plants appearing naturally are granaatbos (rhigozum abovatum)
soetdoring, geelbietou (osteospernum sinuatum) eragrostis obtuse
( hartjiesgras) and various Karoo bush species.
Other remnant bush veldt species recorded include spekboom,
gwarrie, wilde pruim, and shepherd’s bush, Renosterbos occurs on
a small section.
The surface of the land is in excellent condition since complete
withdrawal of small stock over the past three years has allowed
the natural grazing to return to normal.
WATER SUPPLY
The average rainfall for the area is between 250-300mm of summer
rain, normally in the form of thunder showers.
Besides the natural water from the Groot Rivier the property has
good quality sustainable underground water. There are four
windmills and two solar pumps that supply water to the veldt via
a series of cement dams, troughs, plastic tanks and the
homestead A natural fountain close to the river is a reliable
source of water for the homestead. There are 5 earth dams at
suitable positions on the property that supply veldt water.
A new ten metre cement reservoir holds water for the homestead.
There is a pump at the river which could be used to pump water
to the homestead or olive grove when the river has water.
BOUNDARIES/FENCES
The property was originally a small stock farm and the external
fences are 1.4 m jackal proof fences .The internal fences have
not been lifted and a ten camp system is still in existence. The
boundary fences are generally in a good condition and a portion
of the Western boundary fence was recently newly constructed.
