About Steytlerville

In 1876 Steytlerville was established on the farm Doorschpoort in September 1880. The first erven were auctioned and it fetched prices ranging from £80 to £30 an erf!

This town in the centre of the wool and mohair district in the south eastern corner of the Great Karoo is known for its astonishing variety of semi-desert vegetation which includes dwarf shrubs, tiny succulents, umbrella shaped wild plum trees and ancient cycads. The village with it's colourful main street flanked by Karoo Victorian cottages, boasts a cavernous Edwardian Church.

Steytlerville has been endowed by nature with exceptional beauty and game such as the Kudu and Springbok abound. Various game farms cater for the ecotourist. Read more about Steytlerville here....
